After some time a harware installation warning message appeared which read: "The Software you are installing for this hardware ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 has no passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.
I was told to ignore those Windows Logo Testing messages by going to control panel > system > hardware > driver signing > ignore. For the STOP error, I was told to replace the 2 memory modules with the old ones and reboot.
